Hoya shepherdii is a distinctive species known for its long, slender, dark green leaves that resemble string beans or narrow blades. Native to the Himalayas and surrounding regions, it grows as a trailing or climbing vine and is well-suited to hanging baskets or trellises. In the right conditions, it produces clusters of small, star-shaped white flowers with a maroon center, which are lightly fragrant. Hoya shepherdii is especially prized for its unusual foliage and elegant, cascading growth.
Hoyas are a Plantsmith favourite due to their easy-going nature and diversity (not to mention some of the craziest names around). They are epiphytic plants, meaning they require a well-draining mix in a tighter pot to be happy; only repot in Spring when it is bursting out of its current pot. Keep in a well protected area or indoors over winter in cooler climates. Allow soil to dry out between watering in winter and keep moist during warmer months.
Available in 8cm plastic nursery pots.
We do our very best to photograph each new batch of plants that come in, taking care that the plant pictured here is an accurate representation of the current stock on hand. Please also note, as is the nature of living things, there may be some slight variation in leaf shape, placement etc, they are living plants after all!
We pride ourselves on the health and quality of our plants, hand picking them from a multitude of specialist growers across Victoria and NSW.
