Hurry! Only 0 Left in Stock!
The beautifully patterned, glossy leaves and clumping growth habit of the Peacock Plant make it a great highlight plant that can reach over 60cm in height. Unlike other Calatheas, makoyana has almost translucent foliage, allowing the colour variations to be seen on both sides of the leaves; especially lovely, as plants from the ‘Prayer Plant’ family will raise their leaves at night.
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid direct afternoon sun. Will tolerate lower light but grows best with moderate light.
Water: Water when the top 1-2cm feels dry. Use filtered or distilled water if possible, as these plants are sensitive to chlorine and fluoride.
Humidity: Not fussy. Thrives in high humidity, but will be fine in your average room/ house. Mist regularly, group with other plants, or place near a vase of water to increase moisture around the leaves. The leaf-closing behaviour (prayer plant movement) is most pronounced in humid conditions and responds to light changes—a sign your plant is thriving.
Temperature: Not fussy.
Soil: A mix designed for tropical houseplants works well.
Feeding: Feed monthly during spring, summer and autumn with an indoor or high nitrogen based liquid fertiliser. Reduce feeding in winter.
Repotting: Repot every 12–24 months or if the plant becomes pot-bound.
Available in 20cm plastic nursery pots.
We do our very best to photograph each new batch of plants that come in, taking care that the plant pictured here is an accurate representation of the current stock on hand. Please also note, as is the nature of living things, there may be some slight variation in leaf shape, placement etc, they are living plants after all!
We pride ourselves on the health and quality of our plants, hand picking them from a multitude of specialist growers across Victoria and NSW.
Our nursery is located in Preston, and delivery is available to Melbourne suburbs or contact us for Australia wide delivery.
