Air Layering is a method of propagation to create a genetically identical clone from a parent plant. Similar to propagating from stem cuttings, air layering benefits from remaining attached to the parent plant while producing a root system of it’s own. Can be used on a wide variety of indoor and outdoor plants.
After choosing the desired stem of your parent plant, gently expose the cambium layer by removing the outer layer of stem tissue or bark. Fill the capsule with damp propagation media (coir and sphagnum moss work best) and clamp around to fully enclose the exposed area. Water weekly to keep media moist and encourage growth. Check for root development from 6 weeks onwards. Once established simply cut away from parent plant below the root ball of your new clone and it's ready to be planted!
Capsules come in two sizes to suit varied branch and stem diameters:
Small 6-8mm
Medium 8-12mm
