Insect frass is a premium, environmentally concious fertiliser made from the castings of black soldier fly larvae. It contains slow release nitrogen to promote heavier and healthier foliage growth, and its low carbon/nitrogen ratio increases the bioavailability of phosphorus, a key plant nutrient with major roles in root development.

Additionally, nitrogen fixing bacteria, protozoa, and fungi are each present in this fertiliser at 240 million CFU/g (colony forming units per gram), 200x more concentrated than typical compost. These beneficial microbes convert nitrogen from the air into a form that can be absorbed by plants, replenishing bioavailable nitrogen as it is used by the plant. Soil microbes can also improve soil structure in the long term by breaking down the some of the hydrophobic compounds that cause potting mix to become water-repelling as it ages.

Insect frass also contains chitin, a major component of insect exoskeletons. When absorbed by plants, chitin triggers the plant’s immune response, resulting in the production of antimicrobial compounds and stronger cell walls which help protect against pests and other pathogens.

This product can be incorporated into potting mix or garden soil, used as a top dressing and watered in, or as hydroponic fertiliser/root drench. Available in 1kg bags.
